This contemporary home at Broad Avenue was missing good social space and natural flow to the kitchen, which, with an awkward shape, could feel a little disconnected with the living and garden areas.
Studio Arkell suggested some internal reconfigurations that transformed the space to become a modern, open-plan kitchen-living-dining space that connects well to the rest of the home as well as to the outside space.
Now there is a natural flow from the entrance hall into this comfortable living space through the generous full height, double-glazed doors, which can be open to the other living areas or closed off to separate the space, giving maximum flexibility and lots of light through to the hall.
The contemporary kitchen design includes a sociable island providing high bar dining, as well as a separate lounge and TV area, resulting in our client now happily spending more time than ever in this sociable, user-friendly space, rather than in the more formal and traditional separate living room.
The interiors were designed to reflect the contemporary home, whilst still being comfortable and easy to live with. Natural materials, mid-wood tones combined with crisp Crittall style glazing, repeating elements of modern, vertical timber cladding and a palette of blue/greens answered the brief and create an up-to-date look whilst still retaining a timeless feel.
